A Thousand Stars

A Thousand Stars

A Poem by Scarlett Ledbury
"

This is the product of a midnight writing session

"
A thousand stars are paid to me
every time your pearls are shone,
For every time you smile at me
I no longer feel alone.

It's a job to find a dream like you
and that for sure is no lie,
For no work of art is as complex as you
so I'm working all the time

I can't quite see what you see in me
though you talk about my light,
and I know you tire of my stubborn ways
but you never put up a fight.

I have one last parting word my friend
and then I'll let you be,
the secret words I speak for you
lay across my lips to read.

So don't undo the good you've done
to a heart as full as mine,
even though you may not know it now
you fill it all the time.
