Where Did You Sleep ?

Morning wakes hungover Madrona
Seattle's curtains are being drawn
and trash cans trundle down
million dollar drives.
Iron gates keep them safe
swimming pools keep them fit.

One house is closed down
its eyes covered in black plastic
and its blinds shuttered.
The house is in mourning
for its blond haired boy.

Wax stains the pavement
drips from a bereft candle,
paint splatters the walls
"R.I.P Kurt" from a young girl
with "Lithium" carved on
a bloodied arm.

A car pulls up,
a sunglassed, stony faced woman
rushes up the drive,
long legs, high heels,
t shirt tattered
she calls out to someone
she will never find.

Luxury couldn't find company and the lonely man who couldn't
understand failed to get enough money to fix the hole. The
chemicals in his brain numbed the pain but the morning always
ticked back around. In the middle of the night they cursed his
name for leaving them but tears mixed with oaths and flickering
candles wept for the lost soul.
