My Future

My Future

A Poem by Scott A. Williams

I'll be passed on the street
while I rifle attentively
through the trash for food.

"Hey," they'll say
"Didn't you used to be--?"
"Yep."
"You were big -- what happened?"

And I'll tell them everything
after the part they already know.
After I found success and fortune,
a gorgeous loving wife,
two adorable children
nice house
car that never breaks down
well-behaved dog that makes
just enough of a mess for you to love
I quit
and threw it
all away
so I could start again
once more
from the bottom.

Ah, yes. I'm not necessarily good at doing things right the first time, or well for that matter, but if there's a mess to clean up, something to fix, I can do that, always bottoms up ... :P

A gloomy yet telling forecast.

I have a dog like that. :-)
