Death Tolls

Death Tolls

A Poem by realmwriter
"

Inspired by Kwp's "Existence Soup"

"

And death will find us as swiftly as the night in which the shadows hide from light.

And she will come, cloaked in long, flowing, black robes to rob the graves of those departed this coil.

Death will be ever silent at your door until the time comes for you to invite him in and welcome him as a long lost friend.

He will not long wait at the brink of that tight, locked gate, for he holds the key and tolls it cross the iron bars for thee.

A very dark, rather morbid write. We all muse on the subject at times… Our thoughts tend to run to dark and mysterious. I think it's because we don't really know what death will be -- it truly is the final frontier!

You're welcome.
Pretty intense and dark.
I loved the last 2 lines. They tell the truth. How death never waits and there are no locks for him.
Great writing!

Thank you so much. The Reaper comes for all. Glad you like it.
hey i like this - like it even more that you flowed on after eating my soup :)

death - funny thing we all have to come to grips with - the only thing none of us can escape ... but then I don't think I would wish to stay in human for for an eternity - it would get a bit dull watching all of us make the same mistakes over and over ....

I wonder what lay just past those iron bars - i know it - now to feel it , be it, see it

Nice one You x x x

Thank you KL, I'm glad you like it.
Ah, the one damn thing that you can't get away from...ever watching, may as well smile even when down, may as well die knowing you tried rather than didn't, death is cunning and arrives anyway, different for you love, new directions in your work of late xo

Most welcome hon, always xo
One of my favorite topics Death in my view John Donne's writing remains to me as the pinnacle of expression so as such I am a little bias. This however a good representation yet if I may seem a little insiduous. The romantic side which is probably what takes me is that it could just well be a representation of a cycle which so far we know life to be part so death might be in there somewhere. If that were to be so (big if) that's then the moment when "One short sleepe past, wee wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; death, thou shalt die." So yes to the attitude of perceiving as a friend!

Strong feeling expressed here...

Thankyou
