Innocence Lost

Innocence Lost

A Poem by Ariel
"

A terribly sad poem about loving someone and finding out that their actually a total a**hole.

"
Winters were always brittle,
Especially when I was stuck with you.
As your soury breath seeped through my skin
Like old, craggily cigarette smoke.
Poison-soaked, thorny vines creeped upon
My already shattered soul.

Springtime was never springy, for
The blooming flowers were always black.
Black with soot and caked with dust,
Even the grass was a sickly grey.
Sometimes, I hoped you'd go away.

Summer's gone, summer's lost,
Lost like our love among the ever-growing
Moldy crust.
You took my heart and in turn,
I murdered yours.

Gone forever the happy, sunshine
Days of old.
Now, even I forget what it felt like
To leap, to run, to dance merrily along the clouds.
Maybe, soon someone else will come
And teach me what it is to love again.
Maybe...

Wow... that is really, really, depressing! Which is good, I think, because that's the mood it's supposed to evoke. You have some great word choice to get that mood - words that convey a depth of meaning that you might not usually associate in pairs - winter/brittle; craggily/cigarette smoke. I liked it a lot. Hopefully, you will have occasion and inspiration to write a poem with equally vibrant imagery, but a happier topic! :)

I like it, I was expecting a more lead-up-to-the-darkness type of thing, but I like how you just got straight to the "he's a d**k" message.
