Pearls~

Pearls~

A Poem by NoneOfYourBusiness akaKITTY KUTABAREakaCandyPole

In between a wave

and the shore

my pearls scattered

at the bow of your boat

and there

you scooped me up

didn't miss a single letter

of my shattered moon

you took my siren song

with a kiss

while Johnny Cash

dreamed dusky notes through the spray

catching leaping fish

on his baritone sorrow

For you I became a woman

pearls in my hair

my legs uncertain

in the shallows

my ice floe gown traded

for lace

and satin

my scales decorating a seagull's throat

in the sky

while the frost built roses

for my trail

to your life .  . . .

 . . . .life is precarious

and in a way

I have comfort

the feel of your dying against my breasts

a memory tattoo

that curves me into an arc

around the agony

of the hollow bride

but I have these pearls of me

you collected

and saved;

so to the bottom of the sea

I will trail you on the strand

of oyster shells

and add my tears

to the sea

bravo!! I was just thinking I need to read a new Selene poem ha - descriptions to make Carroll jealous - "pearls in my hair
my legs uncertain
in the shallows
my ice floe gown traded
for lace
and satin
my scales decorating a seagull's throat" - so nice! and I love the whole of the last stanza in particular! "add my tears to the sea" !!

Oh, but this is brilliant Selene. Chronicle of a doomed love foretold, and does so with a heart that's large and full.

Love that can never be - words woven intricately
to create a poem of beautiful sorrow.

Oh! This is so lovely. I am enchanted by your painterly way of making words into vivid images. The first line is immediately captivating - "in between a wave/ and the shore..." I couldn't have not kept reading after that, even if I'd wanted to.

A rhapsody from the heart wound around love and life.

touches deep into the heart in wistful notes of deepest oceans pull of sentiment, all tides and currents tugging, while feathery tendrils can be felt lacing softly around thoughts gamely treading sea-legs... peering above the diamond crystal reflections of whitecaps sparkle in the sun, but we belong below wrapped in the warm blanket of divine emerald waters...mmmm

how you lift me up above the scene like a seabird and then plunge me into the depths like a denizen of the undersea grotto while viewing it all as the fisherman yet deftly drift me off into his thoughts about his woman but suddenly perceive and understand her sentiments all in just 160-170 words is beyond me but however you did it please DONT STOP ;-) superbly selene!

One of the saddest stories I have ever read is that of Andersen's Little Mermaid (the original version). It never fails to bring me to tears as the quintessential image of unrequited love.. and your poem has done the same... each pearl a tear.

Your poetry is like the Mona Lisa...one cannot turn away. There are no huge words here, yet the ones used form a tight tapestry, one that appears fresh at each gazing.
Absolutely I love this!

Beautiful. Sad. Poignant. I always love mermaid stories. Adding Johnny Cash in is just wicked. ;D

One word choice note: "so to the bottom of the *ocean* / I will trail you..." (rather than sea followed by sea)
Cheers!
