The Blues of Langston Hughes

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing it smooth to revive his muse

I sing it cool! I sing it loud!

I sing it jazzy! I sing it proud!

Who am I to sing it?

...I’ve got my nerve

I just can’t keep quiet,

And have my Dream Deferred

I guarantee you’ll dance

To my grand vibrato

The music will stick in your head

Until you dig my Motto

I can sing it tame

But I'd rather sing it wild

Either way it's brilliant

The lullaby of a Genius Child

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

It's an old tune, but it still reigns true

I sing it sweet

With the beat of the streets

I’m singing so good,

I got you tapping your feet

A song of truth

A song for any era

Harmony against hatred

I too, sing America!

It is His song,

But I’ll sing it my way

Humming sweet nothings…

To Madam Alberta K.

A Jukebox Love Song

To set the ambiance

From ancient, dusky rivers

To the Harlem Renaissance

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

I sing the blues of Langston Hughes!

All poets -who know it…

Should sing it too!

I have never heard of this poet, Langston Hughes,
yet I think that you have managed to pay a fine
tribute to this US Blues artist, in a lucid,
informative way,
well done sir

All of the prides of place Hughes' work sit within your piece are stellar, SR...your tribute to the man is top notch. He died before I was even born, but like most great artists, his poetry lives on eternally. Thank you for writing this, and thank you for sharing it with us, and...by all means...finish it and RR me the result ;-)

I have to say, the title really caught me here. I think you have a really catchy one. I also think that it is really good to see someone honoring the inner music of Hughes. I liked all the illusions in this piece to hos work. I think a poem like this allows his work to live on in a new way. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it is done!

i think that Mr Hughes would feel flattered and perhaps even honored by this. this piece truly sings, at the top of its voice. a fitting tribute to an established and honored poet and writer.
