Switched (Humorous)

A little Halloween humor in honor of Poe..

“Switched”

 

Once upon a midnight dreary

While I pondered weak and weary

When all the adults were feeling eerie

I think they may have had too much beery?

 

And so they cast a magic spell

And locked the children inside to dwell

 

They snatched their costumes  and their bags

And dressed  as pirates and pirate hags

 

 witches on switches

And spiders in webs

 

Ghostly dancers

and men without heads

 

Devils with pitchforks and arrow point tails

Angels with halos and wings that were sails

 

monsters and mobsters

Fairies and bats

 

Gremlins and goblins

And wicked black cats

 

Vampires and zombies and warlocks galore

There were mummies and werewolves

But wait there was more

 

Instead of the candy they had an idea

They could magically change all the candy to beer

 

Instead of the doors on which they should knock

They decided a club they would make from a rock

 

Then out of five pumpkins they made a live band

They were rocking and Rolling as hard as they can

 

So all hallows eve became quite a sight

To all the adults who had ventured that night

 

Laughing and dancing when morning light broke

They looked at each other and nary a word spoke

 

They didn't remember what had occurred

They walked home quite dazed with vision quite blurred

 

The children content just smiled kind of sly

As the dazed and confused adults wondered by

 

The children had had quite a time then as well

For adults had been under the children’s cast spell

 

They had a wild party that night of their own

Unsuspecting adults had been banned from their homes

 

They had  played all the tricks ,They had eaten the treats

Now their bouncing off walls from too many sweets

What a fun write, great humour and it just flows beautifully as always. You break all the rules and make new ones. Normally the more consistent the meter and the rhyming patterns the better the poem, but here you take us on a frolic with each stanza different, and to me it works extremely well. It adds punch where you used the short lines and and then gallops off again into the next phase of extended meter. Of course that Shallimar twist at the end. Luv ya work girl!.
