Greed

Greed

A Poem by writerofshadows

We suck not
At the giving earthly teat
But go for the throat
Draining her
Of her living blood
And as we take
More than is given
We grow stronger
And smarter
And find new ways
To drain our worldly mother
And grow fat and happy
Our forgotten earthen comrades
Whither with famine
Until we take so much
There is none left
So we turn our devices
Against each other
Stealing amongst ourselves
Forgetting, easily
Our hollowed world
And in our race
To plunder what we can
We failed to realize
Even after
It was far too late
That as we hollowed our Mother
We, ourselves, became husks as well
Our souls long since sold

How sad and true this is. We rape the world around us and expect it to keep supporting us, providing for us. But there will come a day when this world will be done with us. We are no longer evovling, and once that happens, then evolution decides w are no longer needed. One day we will be just a dinasour. XX
