Running

Running

A Poem by Shawna
"

I've created a monster.

"

Running fast, out of breath, trying not to trip.

I fall anyway, cut my elbow, see the blood drip.

I get up again and gather my feet.

I continue to run even faster now down the long, dark street.

Panting and pushing, never slowing down.

I keep moving and running until I reach town.

People look at me like I'm crazy. What is she running for?

Can they not see this monster behind me, clawing at my core?

"Help me!" I choke out, wiping tears from my cheeks.

"Will you let me in, keep this monster from me?"

No one answers, they just seem frightened by my cries.

They begin to run from me like wolves from a fire.

Everyone was gone except an old bag lady standing on the corner.

She motioned her wrinkled hands for me to come join her.

I ran over to her and cried out for her help.

She said,"Don't be afraid dear, you're running from yourself."

I notice we all are running from ourselves at some point in our life. Thanks for the review friend!
