Flame

Flame

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I found the inspiration for this poem while I was camping in the High Sierras with my family.

"

The fire crackles.

Snapping and spitting,

It blows sparks into the air

To be carried by the wind

Through tall, closed ring of trees

Into the deep, starry sky.

Not only warmth and light,

But love

Breathe from the glowing embers.

Songs of love, humor, and sadness

Spin their way through the air

To the hearts of all around.

A burnt log falls,

Firing a new, flashing blaze

Of red-hot sparks.

They jump through rings of dark smoke

And crisp, mountain air.

Longing seeps through the group

To be part of the flame,

To feel its gentle warmth

In a series of tingles.

The fire dies to embers

And entrances all

With its hypnotic light.

As always (smile), I enjoyed your writing. The only critique I can offer is the ending seems a bit cliche.
