Story of the Beginning

Story of the Beginning

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

Another of my random stories...

"

When long ago the world was filled

With creatures winged, clawed, and gilled,

Great races lived by grace of Pan

Betwixt of angel and of man.

By name of fairy, elf, and gnome,

They claimed the forests as their home.

Abundance spread throughout the Earth

While magick grew to give rebirth.

When Paradise seemed found at last

And woes of earth seemed of the past,

A race awoke from thoughtless sleep:

Humanity, the lightless deep.

The races welcome him at first,

Concerned for beings forever cursed

To lose connection with the land,

To build empires, to fall like sand.

When lost their gift of life appeared,

And from the path of good they'd veered,

The ones betwixt of light and dark

Fell into lands of oldest spark.

And now, at last, they are set free

To gather at the ancient tree,

To form a council of the great

And their victory, celebrate.

I almost never like a rhyming poem. The legend you've depicted is exceptional. I found myself wanting to know more. . .

How uplifting to find such hope in the face of man that has waged such atrocities for centuries - all the while Mother Nature does the same I suppose in light of what has happened recently. A wonderful poem full of hope and redemption. Thank you.
