Treachery

Treachery

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I'm really, really mad right now, because somebody who I thought was a nice person is being really hypocritical and gossiping about all the people in our little group and stuff.

"

They steal and cheat,

wandering through life

in a clueless haze.

They think their lies

will never reach

unintended ears,

but, really,

the lies show more

about the cretins

who spawned them.

Kicking and hitting,

biting and clawing,

they work their way

to spread dark seeds

and split friendships in half

to be left on the ground

in a million shining pieces.

Their ignorance shows

when they finally see

that the people they

themselves talk to

are the same people

that they talk about.

Those people learn

and figure it all out,

and that's when it hurts.

To see somebody

who you believed was good

is in fact lying,

twisting innocent words

to suit their dark purpose.

Good to let it out in writing, Justin. There will always be petty, gossipy people. All we can do is maintain our own personal integrity.

Just a comment - I might look to tighten some of the lines - cut out unnecessary words.
