Rhythms of Nature

Rhythms of Nature

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I was watching the wind in the grass the other day, and this came to me...

"

A soft breeze rustles

the field of rusted green grass.

Flickers of movement catch my eye,

separating them from the rest

not in color, size, or brightness,

but by the simple act of moving.

In these ways, Currents of Spirit

show themselves to those who are willing

but do not possess the inate Sight.

The stormy, waves crash and roar,

in an icy blaze of stormy colors:

Greens, blues, and iron grays,

bound by frames of solid white.

The natural flow of the water

reveals the pulse of the living earth.

Its dazzing emotions are displayed

by the rush of the cold sea.

Dark, cathedral clouds

veil the world from the golden light,

letting in only fragmented rays

of Helios's radiance.

As afternoon fades to evening,

the pure amber blaze

fades to an unknowable hue;

bright as gold, pale as silver.

They drift through the heavens

in a single direction,

as though they are silent warriors

on the march to protect or siege.

Grey mist obscures the world

until silhouettes blur

and shadows vanish.

The world is draped in silver,

never quite as deep as black,

nor as pure as white.

The silent wind and empty air

speak of the ages of the world

through their intriquing daughters,

dancing maidens of mist.

Closing my eyes to visions of the world,

noises, touches

clarify and reveal

an entire world hidden beyond the norm

that can be reached every time

you close your eyes.

Sounds, distant and close,

blend together into the peaceful song

of the earth and sky.

Birds and insects sing to themselves,

unaware that so many enjoy their tunes.

The golden mist of sunset glows,

fading the distant hills

with its fog of shining beauty.

The very air is filled with warm laughter

that drenches the vivid emerald trees,

in fiery orange droplets.

The trees and stones cast long shadows

as the amber wind paints the sky

in leaves of copper and fire...

Justin, you are an artist of words. You paint breathtaking pictures that you bring to life in the mind of your reader. Unbelievable. You have a unique and rare talent for this. Normally, a lot of detail loses me, but your words always manage to captivate me and pull me right into the visual, as if I'm there.

Beyond excellent, my friend... :) This is simply beautiful!
