As a Teacher

for those posing as mentors

I have to see race 

but ignore race 

I have to see culture 

but ignore culture

I have to see religion

but ignore religion. 

I have to be educated 

but ignore biases

I have to be sensitive

but not condescending 

I have to be understanding 

but not intruding. 

I have to be encouraging

but not patronizing. 

I want to make a safe environment

but not an ignorant one

I want to see equals

but not ignore features 

I want to stay informed

but not by one single source. 

Al of these demands

from the law and from 

humanity 

but I am the one who 

has it 

easy. 

I am happy to oblige.
