The Spirit of The Grand Ole Opry

The Spirit of The Grand Ole Opry

A Poem by skote1972

Wrote this as an introduction to the book I'm trying to complete final edits on... it's a little dark... and I like it that way! LOL

"

The Spirit of the Grand Ole Opry

So you want to join the hallowed few,

Who on this stage have made their mark.

Well the Grand Ole Opry’s calling you,

Lonely spirits in the dark.

Bring your best and brightest sons to us,

We'll see if they past test,

For the spirits of the Ryman stage,

Accept only country's best.

Do you think you have the strength and skill,

To join with us on our stage?

Do you really have the right to sing,

Tales and stories of your age?

You walk in the footsteps of the past,

When you walk across this floor.

Where Johnny, Hank Senior and Patsy,

Wowed the crowds in days before.

So if you think you have what it takes,

To make your legend well known.

Step in “The Circle,” take your shot,

Add your spirit to our own.

As a musician, I have come to HATE the vocal reality shows. I will say this... I did like Scotty McCreary... he was real... I like that.

Unfortunately, to many musical acts we see today are pre-fab, way too polished, auto-tune using, wouldn't know how to actually write a song if their life depended on it fakes! Wrapped up in a pretty bow edited to all hell in the studio with a recommended hook to sell records.

People like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, Hank Williams Sr and Jr... that wasn't just Country... that was MUSIC... a story that someone had lived through set to music... that's what I love about... Today's music doesn't often have that same realness to it. It's about money, oogling girls, or worse... that stuff is just fluff... and genuinely makes me sick... I've stood on the stage at the Ryman and felt that pressure of musical history all around you... the feeling that you were standing in the place where those legends once stood... it was awe inspiring

Today amongst, the Voice and American Idol we can lose sight of such a honor, but what a honor it is to be called worthy by the very people you hold with such high regard.

Thanks for the kind review again. I like your style in regards to poetry, so a positive review from you means a lot to me... hopefully this is what I'm looking for to jump start the beginning of the book.

Captured the importance and legend well here. Great write that anyone can relate to. This could be about anything we strive for, being the best at whatever it is you feel strongest about, which is no mean feat. exceptional write again.

I changed it up just a tad... and changed from a 9-8 meter to a 9-7 meter... the novel I wrote has a paranormal twist... so I figured I'd put the Poe into the introductory POEm... LOL
