SHOULD I DIVE?

WROTE FOR A PICTURE CONTEST

SHOULD I DIVE?

It is difficult to dive

But I must dive

As I am in the suit

I must do what suits my suit.

 

Third eye on my head may provide light

But only diving can give insight

Strange are the ways of the sea

How these fishes manage to see...!!

 

Not that I am sad

Not that I feel bad

But, while thinking of purpose,  

I am tempted to suppress my duty.

 

Like these waves that reach shore..

Only to return to the beginning…

Repeating these futile cycles

Is frightening, than abysmal sea bottoms

 

 

Shall I stay on the shore?

About diving deep should I bother?

While the end of both diver and onlooker

Are pre mapped by the same driver

 

Help me to decide

Weather to live or rest

For what for whom and why

Am I born with this uniform?

On looking into the picture that was given for contest
I felt that the person is a diver, ready to jump into the sea..

Old Coyote would tell you to dive in. Take no chances. Have no fun. Ocean can be a scary site. Give her respect and you will always flowed to the top of the water. A very good poem. Just dive in.

A very intelligent and somewhat unorthodox approach to the vexed proverbial question of "to be or not to be"; to be an observer or a participant. It brings to mind a debate concerning this personal decision: does one see more whilst standing back than one sees at close quarters and hands-on...? They both have their pluses and minuses, and therefore the options are gilt-edged. It makes one think of the contemplation of an idea and the actuality of a so-called dream. And it can be applied to any such choice in life: to do or not to do, perhaps...
A very interesting and thoughtful exploration of such a theme, and the analogy is put to fine use. The poem has more of a relation to the image than may on paper seem likely. The last stanza could be a poem all itself, and concludes the concept quite dramatically, leaving a very effective overall impression.
