Summertime

Summertime

A Poem by smurfett

Don't you miss the good ole' days
Outside for hours on end,
Hula hoops, jacks and lemonade stands
Great times for you and your friends.
Red light, green light, king of the hill
Tug o' war til your hands were sore,
Didn't go in til the street lights were on
In the morning, we'd be back out the door.
So much fun to be had with nothing more than your bike
No helmets were worn back then,
With nothing ever more than a scrape on the knee
Nothing that mom couldn't mend.
But things have changed, tug o' war, what's that?
Electronics have replaced the toys.
The fun has also changed a bit
When it comes to girls and boys.
What I wouldn't give to show the kids these days
The fun that's passing them by,
But to put down the controllers and the cell phone...
They'd die just to give it a try.
But I'm hopeful you see in the whole scheme of things
It'll all come around once again,
Boys and girls alike, a dodge ball, a bike
And a group of your "bestest" of friends.
That's all the matters in the life we live
Your friends and family as one,
The blessings they bring will fulfill your life
To be enjoyed by everyone.
