A Poem by sonnie ibadah

There was a time when my father was my king,
tall, mighty and strong,
in my meek eyes,
he was that man riding by on a big stallion,
ready to sweep me from any kind of danger.
In countless battles,
he’d fight one against millions,
yet nothing would go wrong.
Nothing ever went wrong.
Because he was a hero.
Because he was my hero.
But all that now is nothing but a fading dream,
the one I’m not even sure I had.
Nothing but a torn chapter,
to a story so sad.

There was a time when my mother was my guardian angel,
the one that caught me before I fell,
the one to whom my worst fears I’d tell.
A beautiful melody to a lullaby so sweet and calm,
magically finding solace in her arms.
She was that person whose smile was always bright,
and whose opinions were always right.
Because she was an angel.
Because she was my angel.
But all that nothing but a foggy memory,
the one I’m not sure I even had.
Nothing but a wishful thinking,
In a world so bad.

Sonnie this is gorgeous - amazing and so gentle - I cant help but get teary-eyed at it. Its straight from the heart of a kid who is always a kid to their parents - a real yearning for days when we felt safe - no one can harm us - I just want to hug you for this. This is so moving. The repetitive style of the two stanza let us know that each parent is equal and loved equally even though as a girl dad always comes first lol
You got me by the heart and squeezed it here - made me feel it.
God Bless

I liked this a lot. Our all knowing, all mighty parents fade before the light of grown up realities. Still if we look hard we can find the hero and the angel.

Sonnie Ibadah, beautiful, just beautiful. I loved it! It is so sad. Every word grabbed me and the flow was like a breeze; sneaking up on me, like our innocence drifting away...the world can be a bad place - so many terrible things happen, but also good ones. Thank you for the great writing. Dale
