Distant Blood

Distant Blood

A Poem by OtherWorldWoman

The rain pours through the rafters
And I sit out on the roof
A skylight in the ceiling
Is my window to the truth

A family sits beneath me
Through the golden rainy haze
Eating turkey at a table
By the cozy fire blaze

A baby in a high chair
Man and wife in love
Grins are painted 'cross their faces
I, reminiscing from above

This family once was mine as well
Alas, I had moved on
For, once I walk across the stage
New life is to be drawn

I feel like I'm slipping
Away from life itself
My unstable grip is ripping
I try to push myself

Nothing helps my grief stand out
More than joy alone
When I, myself am greeted
By stares of solid stone
