Gnaw

Gnaw

A Poem by Stephanie W.

I can smell the chemical spills

From the glittering hills

Where the bow legged women sit bored and bonded in frills

And you're riding that carousel

Or brushing your razor sharp teeth-

the gateways protecting the treasure beneath-

that sandpaper tongue that was keeping me clean-

That now lies in the dead zone beneath 10,000 leagues.

I can smell it in your granite eyes

The toxins emitting from your cement insides

I keep running for my life but there's nowhere to hide

You swoop down from your glitter to gnaw at my bones

And paint your red question marks on the roof of my home

You're gnawing and knocking but I'm not alone.

You're gnawing and squawking, I'll throw you a bone.
