A Poem by Rachelle
"

Focus: The test of growth is characterized by the ability to see beyond the despair and embrace it as your springboard to greatness.

"
Shut my eyes and dispel the pain
Desperately willing rationality to reign.
Logical measures to contain the fear
Restraining myself from shedding tears.

Stiff upper lip to chart my course
No more time to feel remorse.
The keys I grasp and lock my heart
None shall ever tear me apart.

Wiped away the tears forlorn
Making way for a brand new morn
Open wide my self-imposed tomb
This will not be my impending doom.

I am the captain of this battered ship
Master of this lifelong trip.
Pain and sorrow buried away
I make my journey on this day.

You are welcome!
sometimes we just try so hard to suppress our feelings...and yet they eat away at us, and in the end either explode or in some way leave us damaged...

being vulnerable is not such a bad thing...but some of us really have trouble admitting any weakness.

i really like this poem...

I really enjoyed this, especially the last stanza, I think it was the best ending for it. Your rhyming was perfect. Awesome, awesome job!

Thank you, max_vonnegut! I appreciate your visit and review!
Fantastic use of metaphor, right on the money...I enjoy the rhyming scheme as well.
Very honest, didn't feel morbid to me (but consider the source). Please keep writing. It doesn't get much easier, but it's worth the trouble.

I am both inspired and worried by the message in this piece. The sense of immense inner strength is delivered but there is just the small undercurrent of denial that one fears will rear its ugly head at the wrong time. Fantastic write.

Very nice. I like the connection between the title and the actual poem. The fact that there is not an obvious mention of the word "direction" in the poem helped depict the feelings behind it. Good work :)

Thank you, Lauren!
Pain is a part of each life
warning of the stabbing knife.
Pain tells us to change one’s course,
dig in spurs, and jump the horse.
