The Falconer

The Falconer

A Poem by Rachelle

The Falconer

You turned me loose

Unfastened my hood

And the trappings

And shooed me free.

Go soar with the eagles!

You shouted curtly.

Unwillingly I did

Hurt and bitter from the harshness.

And from my airy ascents and descents,

I see you

A solitary, desolate figure

Mired in the chaos and the madness.

I know nothing greater than this:

You set me free

Because you love me.

WOW love the use of Falconry metaphors to make your point, very original and creative. When we love someone we should support their need to grow instead of suffocating their dreams.

Letting the ones we truly be free to express themselves is what we all need to do. Wouldn't life be so much better with less restriction. We are who we are so why hinder this in others?

Great write

beautiful poem and great metaphore. but I feel like disagreeing with the other reviewers. I'm probably too sentimental but setting someone free because you love them is kind of contradictory, to me. I'm a till-death-do-us-part kinda guy.
still, I love the falcon idea.

that is all you can do for the truly loved. restricting movement, restricting growth, results in never knowing the one you love therefor can you actually love them? lovely pen and more so thought...

Thank you!
Sometimes we need to let the people we love go simply because we do love them. It's hard to do but mostly for the better of both souls. Amazing poem!

Your welcome
To love is to sacrifice. This is very beautiful...as beauty always go with purity and simplicity.

The purity of the heart
the simplicity,
the love - the beauty that I see.

Thanks for the share.
