Overcome

Overcome

A Poem by Tasteless Heart

What if my words to you were empty
What if these dreams won't disappear
What if you couldn't make me happy
What if it's more than I can bear
Visions of past mistakes are haunting
As doubts overwhelm and condescend
Even in this my heart is breaking
As I await the bitter end

What if your thoughts were not mistaken
What if your fears become revealed
What if I told you it was over
How would you cope, how would you deal
Knowing that truth would surely break me
Stuck in bitter reality
Watching alone as my world crumbles
Without you here I am not me

Open your eyes and you will see me
Give me your hand and I will show
Lend me your ears and I will whisper
Burdens you shouldn't have to know
Know that inside I am still fighting
Rising above as love transcends
It is for you that I am healing
Slowly but surely on the mend

What if the past could be forgotten
What if it didn't have to be
What if the slate could be turned over
Would we be better with it cleaned
Growing through pain we will be stronger
Knowing this hurt has set us free
Finally done, our truth has conquered
And now our love is meant to be.
