Songbirds And Raindrops

Songbirds And Raindrops

A Poem by R Lee Cline

Modern music presents a lot of choices
Mine has evolved greatly over the years
Rock and Roll was my musical entree
When I was young and hungry to be cool
Southern Rock came along just in time
For this young man with a guitar and long hair
But now as I set on my front porch swinging
Songbirds and raindrops are music to my ears

Beethoven and Mozart were musical geniuses
But their day has long since come and gone
Their music will possibly live forever
I've heard it said it was inspired from above
Opera Music requires a special appreciation
Thank goodness I was born without that
Just idle thoughts as I work in my flower garden
Songbirds and raindrops are music to my ears

Summon to play for King Saul who lost God's favor
David played his harp to refresh a troubled soul
The Book of Psalms is the Bible's hymnbook
Sung with uplifted voice or whispered on bended knee
Today's Christian Music is modern and uptempo
Some of the old hymns still brings tears to my eyes
Quietly and in no hurry I walk down a nature trail
Songbirds and raindrops are music to my ears

Nature's music is impossible to beat, I'd say. Is there anything that excites the senses more than a sounding surf, clap of thunder or howling wind?
