I Will Sleep on the Moon

I Will Sleep on the Moon

A Poem by Terry Edgar

I will sleep on the moon tonight
I will breathe in and out a thousand different skies
there will be no one for a million miles

the stars will smile at me while I am asleep
the air will pray 'my soul to keep'
I will not need a friend out there

out in the bitter, quiet air
the planets will also be alone
in long black holes I'll find a home

the sun will rise as it always does
but, for the night, it shines on us
and so we have a kind of light

I will sleep on the moon tonight

Wow. This is amazing! Usually I'm not a big fan of rhyming poetry without consistent capitalization. XD But this is a wonderful exception. I think it just kept in tune with the whole "contented carelessness" of the poem. I loved how dreamy it was, almost childish in a way. But the line "I will not need a friend out there" kind of hearkened to the adult side, reminding me that though the worries of the world weigh us down amongst people, amongst the things at night- we need not worry.
I really, really, love this!

a delightful poem, the imagery is intoxicating and exquisite, the rhyme scheme fits really well, all the reader can do here is smile and sigh.
