once I was a baby

once I was a baby

A Poem by m.s.early

I threw away all of my pennies
Into the unforgiving wells of Sodom
I was flat on my back in the dark woods
Wishing I could die there on the ground

I felt the fire while I picked glass from my eyelids
I watched my own blood run down and drip off my elbow
Another second chance burned on another wasted night

Grandpa counted his blessings in the twilight of his years
While I plucked stars from the sky like ears of corn from the stalk
I was husking dreams looking for the parts that pleased me most

Though mama never let me see her crying over me
Up all night wondering if I was going to make it home
Praying in a rocking chair that’s rocking to this day

Once I was a baby, once I knew no sin

Sodom, salt, salt in the wounds, and someone waiting to find us and heal those wounds, the self-inflicted kind....

like this one lots.

As we roam here and there to get away from all that are sins in the hopes what was done will be rectified, there are those that will still love us and wait for our return. Wonderful piece.

Some one threw his money for the pleasures or sins, and he realized that he committed sin and wished for death as he was penalized for his sins, his mother always prayed for him irrespective during his infancy or adulthood and still continuing her prayers in the same rocking chair when he was a baby, great footage on real life, parents especially mothers do pray for their children until their death, God's wrath fell upon Sodom and Gomera as the people in those cities sinned is a great metaphor used

Xavier, you never stop being someone's baby!

A realization that even when we are lost and wandering there is someone up waiting, praying we will come home. At least, that's what I got out of it. Beautiful as always.
