Who am I?

Who am I?

A Poem by J. Storm

I don't see forever in your eyes.
How can I perceive forever within you when inside me I only see temporary?
That black cloud follows me around with only an occasional break to let some light in,
Briefly then it's torn from me as fast as it was revealed.
I can't let you in, I can't let any in, there isn't an in to be let into.
It's a void, a wound, a tear upon the fabric of myself.
It's been stitched over so many times it's now a shredded piece of useless linen,
To be folded away and used again for later.
Who I am is etched upon my skin, it shines in my eyes.
It isn't who I am but who I portray,
You don't know me; you can't possibly know me for I don't even know myself.
I feel as a I'm a shade walking through this adventure,
winds howling around me, yet I am still here.
It is a perilous journey we all must take to find ourselves.
It's just who you are when you step out from the other side. But who am I?
