Wayward

Wayward

A Poem by zirk

Jesus, I am hard of hearing
My sight is failing all the time
My heart is cold and dull of feeling
I fear lest I be like the blind

I see that I have sinned against you
And still the lure of it draws
I confessed my sin, so please be faithful
To wash me in your cleansing blood

My heart is seeking for its glory
The pleasures of the world to know
But in my heart of hearts I sorrow
To know that it offends you so

You called me to lay down my life
And I desire to obey
But then when I get started working
The task seems harder every day

I have come to this conclusion
I am a sinful man in need
Wash me in your blood unceasing
And draw me to your Spirit's lead

Jesus, on my own I fail you
But please be faithful in your love
Do not just give me what I'm wanting
But give me you Lord, you're enough

Put in me a bold proclaiming
A faithful hope in what you've taught
Let the world be ever changing
And renew me by a change of thought

I must know the God who's made me
And be held within His word
I must be given faith to lead me
I must be grown by constant hurt

What I'm saying is I'm evil
But I know that you are good
Please conform me to your image
And wash me always in your blood
