Drowning

Drowning

A Poem by Sarah Marie

To drown in a sea of sadness is like
Struggling against currents to find land;
Man cannot swim when a storm’s waves strike,
He praying for another’s outstretched hand.
 Desolation dares him to drown and search
For a friend in his own watery grave;
Emotions rise and on his shoulder perch,
This fighting, lonely man solitude’s slave.
Yet hidden behind the gloom and despair
Are a few who think it not yet their time;
 Love, peace, and meekness-these all truly care
And help him swim and run and sneak and climb.
Man can withstand whatever life can give
As long as he knows his goal is to live.
