Breathless

Breathless

A Poem by Teresa

Breathless kisses, heartfelt sighs,

Given and taken

Passed all around

The laws of the land tell you the score,

The Magical Number

You’d be smart not to ignore.

It doesn’t matter what’s yours,

Doesn’t matter how long,

Nothing truly belongs to anyone anymore.

Doesn’t matter my dreams,

Doesn’t matter my wishes,

You do what you’re told in this land of ours.

You don’t speak your mind,

You keep the hurt to yourself,

You hide those parts of you that the rest of the world abhors.

Colors swirl and blend,

Painting pictures of lands better yonder.

I dream of wonders worlds away

And the lengths I’d take to get there.

Just this once,

I’ll indulge in a thought,

Of my dreams laid out clearly,

A house full of hope,

Of laughter,

And love

A day full of aching and heart breaking sweat,

A road etched in black,

Suddenly lit up and worthwhile and great;

A land and a country,

My home and my sanctuary;

United as one,

Indivisible and strong

My dreams are just dreams,

Until I find strength,

To fight for what we all deserve.
