The Duke

The Duke

A Poem by Mauricio Montoya
"

A court jester

"

The Duke

A court jester,

Busts in,

on an anonymous meeting.

Yelling

The queen, is in denial.

Silly me,

I thought the queen only drank tea

Just then,

The sergeant of arms began to speak.

Sit down,

And have a seat,

For the order of business is at hand.

You may have issues,

And some resentments.

But I truly don’t give a dam.

Suddenly,

Came the mighty roar,

Is anybody willing?

To help him up,

And out the door.

Hear, here, said the duke

I do deplore,

I’ll give two shillings,

And many more.

Loyal to the king,

The subjects,

 Could no longer ignore

Well,well,

Two shillings,

Then put him out the door.

So,

 This is the story,

Of a dysfunctional kingdom.

That found,

 Sometimes Personality

outweighs the principles.

The poem you’re about to read is base on true events the names have been change to protect the idiot. This took place at an A.A. birthday meeting, when the dust settled and the chips were down the first 3 lines came to mind so I decided to finish what I started. Thank you for letting me share.

Interesting thoughts, a bit confusing on the rhyme scheme however. Begins with not much rhyme then in the middle you get this really great flow going and then it ends with no rhyming, maybe it was meant to be this way? I do like the idea of this poem and how even though set in fairytale like medieval times it obviously pertains today

There is nothing here for anyone to be offended by - writing is a release of passion and we should be free to do so whether our moods are positive or negative. A wonderful write.

How can anyone be offended it isn't about anyone in particular... dude don't apolgize for anything at all seriously write what your heart feels .. as long as it is n't pointing fingers at anyone then have at er' It is a good write indeed. Just don't apologize..if people are offended its only because conviction has taken place.. but don't sweat & i didn't see anyone complaining about it so no need to apologize

I think the ending would be more powerful if you just ended it with "sometimes personality outweighs principles," and took out "the end." just some constructive criticism. :)
