A Day on the Reef

A Day on the Reef

A Poem by The Skybreaker

Just a happy poem about the Australian Great Barrier Reef. :] I wrote it for school last year but kinda liked it. My teacher said it was god beyond my years...

A Day on the Reef

Upon the Australian Great Barrier Reef

The water is always blue-green.

But now the moon is up and full,

The anemones show not a leaf.

The fish are tucked into their wet seaweed beds,

The coral reef is still.

Bubbles stream from their parted lips,

They'll sleep in the silence, until...

Dawn breaks quietly to the east,

The reef is flooded with light.

The fish slowly creep, into the deep,

The krill swarm, a fish's feast!

And the ocean is suddenly full,

Of flashing, glinting scales.

They dart left and right, to and fro,

'Till the arrival of three orca whales!

The whales have fed and long since left,

The fish have begun to emerge.

Their fright has vanished into the light,

There are crowds of new krill to purge!

Twilight slowly falls upon the bustling reef,

An octopus yawns and sighs.

Like a baby, drifting off to sleep,

Lulled by the changing tides.

The ocean mirrors a velvet black sky.

Upon the surface, there's not a crease.

The silence falls on unlistening ears,

Once again, the sea is at peace.

The Skybreaker
I love the last two stanzas, but the middle is kinda... sorta... needs some work. Let me know what you think!
