When I Die

When I Die

A Poem by Tobe Osigwe
"

A Poets Dying Wish

"
When I die
Adorn not my cold body in suit;
I need not such burden as I journey
Shirt and Trouser can pass;
Put a Longman Dictionary,
Inside my bleached casket
I envisage Soyinka and Marx will Argue HIM.

When I die
Shove the routine flattering eulogy;
Tell the crowd my wrong along with my right
Save the surface tears for future fears.
No autopsy! No fiddling of my cadaver;
Autopsy cant mend a shattered bottle

When I die
I need no grand FUNeral
Save the money for future woes
Don't cook variety of dishes;
But serve varied stern speeches
Eaten in sombre reflections

Tarry not my cold body for long
Deny not the earth of manure with delay
Crops await it, creatures await the crop
Erect an epitaph as the body is lowered;
Herein lies a confused man,
Who sought peace in a confused world

Good poem. I especially liked the last stanza with one disagreement...The world is not confused it knows exactly what it is doing. Man however is a mess.
