The Foe and the Fawn

The Foe and the Fawn

A Poem by Treble

Two roads diverged in my life,
And every step I took to the left
landed me farther from home.

I kept walking down it,
Trying to see if,
By some chance,
I'd find fawn, not foe.

But every step I took,
I found foe.

The shadows lurked behind me,
The starlight hidden amongst night.

My whole life,
My every joy stemmed from
Being other's wind beneath their wings.
But I've discovered...

You can't save a drowning person
Unless you know how to swim.

So I turned around
To take the right-hand path.
And I practiced.
And I practiced.
And I practiced
Looking out for I... Me... Myself.

And to this day,
I help every person I can.
But that starts with...

MYSELF.

And that. Has made. All. The difference.

often stories tell us that it is fate that alters your life, but it never is

"And I practiced.
And I practiced.
And I practiced"

brings the poem near to reality.

Glad to hear it. Thanks!
Nice take on a Frost classic... I also like the references to left and right hand, as if you are practising the piano... yes, those bass keys add a dynamic to the music but it is in the right hand that melodies are created and carved out of our emotions... this is a great write...love it!

I never even thought of the piano thing! That's a cool twist on it!

it was the left and right hand and the practice that made me think of it :)
