Safe, Danger, Deadly

Safe, Danger, Deadly

A Poem by Truman S. Booth
"

There was a snow storm yesterday. Scared me out of my mind to drive to school on those roads. Funny, though... poetry gets easier when I'm "out of my mind."

"
Feathery dimes and cobweb quarters
Fall and float from compact clouds,
Swirl and flip in ceaseless numbers
Turning hard, safe, black
Into soft, danger, white
Into hard, deadly, gray.

Forsake my trusty steed--
His front legs are strong and sure
On hard, safe, black
But he gets nervous
On soft, danger, white
And refuses to move
On hard, deadly, gray

So I find an old friend--
His legs are strong sure,
All four of them,
In any surface, condition, color.
But he is big and slow
And cannot see well.

Better to be safe in danger
Than blind on black.

Black white gray
Safe danger deadly
Hard soft hard--too hard.
Hard as a mirror,
And just as cold.

Don't read into this too much. A lot of it is pretty clear symbolism, but some of it is just poetic gabbing.

Good work with metaphors. The flow is very good here, nice, sharp and rhythmic. I grew up in New England and can relate to this greatly.

I am a young writer, but I believe that talent knows no age--although they tend to increase together. There are a few things I love, and a few things I hate. I love language, piano, animated movie.. more..
