Semper Fi

A Poem by Taylor Lane
"

you cannot be "always faithful" because you never were

"
How can you say that you wish to serve
When you disrespect their call with your every word
Every lie that you tell and every heart that you break
Letting you in would be their mistake
Trust me I know and all the girls knew
Everyone knew when they opened up to you
So as you reject every heart, mind, and soul
I hope they reject you and you don't attain your goal
Not out of anger or spite nor of rage
But muscles aren't the only thing that earn you a place
"Always faithful" their motto be
Yet a faithful life you never will lead
You use and abuse and throw broken hearts away
Ready to kill in combat but I doubt that you can save
You sacrifice now nothing
And that will not change
Selfish and self loathing there truly is no place
In the marine in hearts in relationships too
You will have none of these because you won't fix you
So continue your blaming on those who mourn for you
For who you were to them as they laid down with you
When they woke up in the morning to find themselves alone
They felt that same loathing that you feel on your own
You continue hating yourself and your loves
I use the word quite loosely because love you know not of
But as you tell me the marines make you a man
I'll tell you so sweetly that nothing ever can
With a glimmer in my eyes and a sparkle in my smile
I show you the havoc you wreak in your wake
And that is a life the marines will not take
Say goodbye to your dream as you forced me to mine
You hoped a life of service would repay all your crimes
But all the hearts you have broken and all those you've led on
May rest easy knowing you'll never move on
From them, well maybe, it's not like you have a damn
But you'll never move on to becoming a man
Never be one deserving the love thrown at you
It all makes sense, the reasons you use
A life not worth living, a heart turned to stone
You want to make sure others feel just as alone
As you do as you lie awake through the night
To your scars and wound you put up no fight
No training can prepare you for the fight of a war
If you cannot fend against that hiding behind your bedroom door
My heart now still breaking not for me but now you
As you'll never matter to anyone because you don't matter to you
