The Puppet

The Puppet

A Poem by Victoria Nakis

I’ll be your puppet as always,

Pull my strings up and down,

Shake me left and right;

Tug at my limbs or rip out my hair.

Bend me in ways my body wasn’t meant,

Injure me beyond human capacity.

Do as you will, just as always;

You’re the puppet master,

To whom I obey.

No utterance of sound,

Nor weeping of pain;

I’ll endure all that you do to me.

Treat me like a rag doll,

Use me until I break;

Discard me like an old toy,

Set me on fire to warm your home;

Do what you will:

I love you.

I am also unsure if the speaker in this poem wants to feel this pain. A case can also be made that the speaker accepts this pain because she deeply loves her significant other. Including a few lines about how the speaker feel about that pain may clarify this aspect of the piece.

Either way, your images are very strong and vivid. You really immerse the reader in the world of your poem.

Hmmm...what we won't do for love? I think you made your point easily with this one. I have read a few of your poems and I can say with uptmost certainty, you definitely express yourself vividly.

About
My name is Victoria. I've lost touch with writing lately, but it's always been a passion. It's my favorite outlet when the feelings I have can't be contained. I'm not particularly good at poetry.. more..
