Halcyon Charm

Halcyon Charm

A Poem by KC

Darling, Satan was never so tempting to Eve

As you are to me, with every shudder,

Every shiver, every gasp and heave.

Here is the proof,

Sometimes there are wicked prayers

God bothers to heed.

And if you squinted,

If you tilted your head at just the right degree

You could almost mistake the very opportunity

As permission, a hats-off salute to promiscuity

for the kids groping at excuses

and warm bodies

"Who’s that boy?" The rumors spill

From eager lips like half-built ships

Fit to fair wind, but not weather waves

Borne on oral breezes by only the

Foolhardy and brave

He nods at them, imperceptibly

Holding fast to his

Pragmatically plausible lies

Ambitiously airtight alibis

Smirking rakishly, he queries

Tell me, do you watch the skies?

A pair of stars appears to have

Landed in your eyes

What? Huh?

She pretends not to hear

She knows what he’s about.

If only she had pennies to show

For all his "darling’s" and "dear’s"

yes, the opening line is fantastic. the style changes halfway through, which can throw a reader off, but the transition here happens smoothly. some great lines and a great message.
very well done.

What an opening line. This was great. A message for all the great pretenders I suppose. :)
