She will be Safe

She will be Safe

A Poem by Kasaundra
"

This is about child abuse.

"

Once upon a time,

there was a girl.

who lived in a war,

in a place that she called home.

Drifting away

without a shelter from the storm.

Nobody understood

what she was holding back.

People wondered, but didn’t ask.

It’s hard to see the pain,

behind the shattered glass.

Yet, the pain is just the same.

She was kept insane and afraid.

Screaming “stop!” was all she could do.

Left to cry up, alone in her room

and every morning which she wakes

she looked back to when it was all right

It’s never simple to forget.

All the results left along her neck

concealed beneath linen and lace.

She is left unable to rise above…

Not until, there’s grace.

I remember the day,

that she slipped away,

and her dreams presented her with wings.

Just a name lies on a polished rock now,

and her mother is left to sing:
a long distance lullaby

of baby blues.
