World War Me

World War Me

A Poem by Kasaundra
"

This is a poem about an abusive relationship and how it can be compared to a war.

"

I ran from the enemy,

a.k.a my ex-boyfriend.

Our relationship was like walking through a battlefield.

I’m without armor and one wrong move you’re down.

His voice was like bullets piercing though my flesh.

Eventually, I was shot down by his bullets, and by his fists.

I hit the ground and was left to suffer as bullets after bullet come.

Now the war is over, I waved my little white flag.

I said enough was enough and I tried to stand.

Sometimes still, I suffer and fighting in the war

even after he is gone and I’m home-free.

Now shellshock holds onto me, grasping at my bones.

But, I try to pull at and loosen its death grip.

and for there to never be another World War Me.

I love the symbolism and The structure is sound. the struggle of inner turmoil is also relevant in this piece as well. This is well written. The rhythm is lacking a bit, but it doesn't take from the wording. its wonderfully expressive.
