Unforseen Mystique

Unforseen Mystique

A Poem by Velveteen Rabbit
"

An observation about my dear aunt, whose husband passed away on December 4, 2008.

"

A few moments

after her grieving son left the house

(with too much in his blood),

I watched her read the paper

with her reading glasses

perched on the end of her nose

          and I remembered how,

          for all those years,

          everyone had considered her

          frail, inept, and

          weak.

Yet here she stands

 two days after

burying her husband,

in unearthed fortitude

that shames us all

with unforeseen

          mystique.

This is a tribute, I love this in its simplicity and just...how you tell the truth concerning other's false notions of frailty and weakness and yet her strength through this ordeal. The lines concerning her son '(with too much in his blood)' I am reading this as drowning the sorrow in alcohol or it could be otherwise with anger, feel free to enlighten me there. The whole rhyming with 'weak...mystique' really wrapped it up with a poetic flow. This is just very real and somehow beautifull to me that you observed and were able to pen this. Thank you for sharing.

Inner strength is such a powerful thing, we all have it but many fail to use it... this piece really made me smile at the end.
