That Kind Of Morning

That Kind Of Morning

A Poem by Tara

If there is anything that can pull me out of myself today
it’s your morning eyes bloodshot blue
and below them your devious sideways smile.
It’s way too early for consciousness
but the dream ended early this morning,
a result of the first dawn of Spring
with it’s rude glaring sun daring us into  day.

I push myself from the warm comfort of you
imagining the first taste of morning Blue Mountain
I spent my last thirty dollars on.
There are some things in life a girl must have.
A good cup of coffee and a morning moment
of bloodshot blues.

The kitchen is clean except for the empty wine bottle
on the countertop and the glasses in the sink.
I open the windows and play some James Taylor.
It’s that kind of morning.
The dog looks up at me sleepily and quickly shuts his eyes.
He agrees it is too early for consciousness.

I try to clear my mind for meditation
but James is singing  about Fire and Rain
and how he’d always thought he’d see her again
and those sunny days that he thought would never end.
I sit and cry tears into my coffee of the Gods,
run upstairs and quietly sneak back into bed
spooning my body into yours realizing
it is indeed too early for consciousness
and the morning will just have to wait.

again, you've done it to me.....
you have a way of bringing your reader with you in your steps into the kitchen, and then back to bed where you know we all would rather be, spooning our love.
my fave was the image of the wine bottle and glass----suggestive, makes me wonder what the night before was like?
greatness!

You are so good at penning these momements onto paper, I felt like
I was there listenin to J.T. myself. 'eyes bloodshot blue', awesome,
and the dog agreeing it's too early, it's lil stuff like that which makes your writing priceless
Keep up this work and keep on dreaming

All the truth and intensity of a haiku, only with more words.
: )
You have described a morning that resonates with every one.
It is both personal in some aspects, but universal enough that we all say " I've had days like that"
To me, at least, that is the definition of excellent poetry.

I've had mornings like that with Marley's " Kaya" album playing

Very Very nice place you are drawing from these days.
Thank you

jesus.

i really have no words.

i have not been speechless since... well i can't remember the last time.

i'm... stunned. and ridiculously jealous that i didn't write this first! lol

as far as the content of the poem (because if we talked about form and literary genius i would just continue to be speechless) but as far as content...

i wish every day were like that... warm and spooning in bed. you evoked the feeling so intensely, i want to cry.

hugs
