As the Revolution is Televised

As the Revolution is Televised

A Poem by Bill Rembert Sr.
"

I wrote this is in honor of Gil Scott-Heron.

"
From Columbine,

to one, one, after a nine

We're being YouTube-d!

But are still blind.

America continues to overlook,

What's perceived as the wrong kind:

The poor, oppressed, the downtrodden

Has the revolution, suddenly been forgotten?

As the idea of freedom, turns rotten.

Stay tuned for the next episode.

Even while it's televised,

We choose to believe the lies

of rugged individualism.

Trumping democracy with capitalism.

Which turns to sexism,

continued racism,

and raising classism.

Stay tuned for the next episode.

Whatever happened to,

"Give me your tired, your poor..."

Welcoming the masses was assured.

It's all been erased to fill in the blank

for the right price,

or, a roll of the dice.

Stay tuned for the next episode.

It might be in your neighborhood, as we implode.

Because we're still all actors, and we all bare the load.
