own a life

own a life

A Poem by Joy C

Owning a life
Who can’t voice their opinions

Good intentions,
Spoiled.

The corpse, stiff and unmoving,
Developed in my memory camera
No escapes

Guilt set heavily on my mind
Never again,
Having a pet

It does hurt so much when a pet dies. You feel guilty, and responsible, and like a part of you is gone.
I have lost three cats, two Muskovia Ducks, a dog... The thing is, animals tend to find me, even when I've decided I can't have another. The cat I have now is the closest I've ever been with a pet, my fat little furry brother. I bet you that eventually an animal will find and love you, and you'll have to love back again. Once the love for them all has entered you, you can't ever really turn away.
I'm sorry for your loss, which is not really less a loss for one than if it were a human friend, I've come to know.
This is a well written short poem, and I'm thankful that you shared.
