That Lasts

A lifetime friendship.

What is a friend?

So it is asked

or thought perhaps.

In ambiguity of design,

I shall try to define mine.

Softness in color

in structure and feeling

rainbows colliding

melting and mixing.

Yet distinct

of essence their own.

A song hummed in variety of tones

of expressions

smiling eyes, ties.....

And all so natural

in every way.

As long or short

as necessary.

For you I clap, dance

in plumage galore

in feeling much more.

Sunshine and warmth 

of dew dripped sky.

I,

in every measure

am your friend.

I read There Are Moments (I want to read them all but this site is slow on the uptake, I will though) and I fell in love with your language, imagery, soulfulness. I've written a memoir about losing both my parents - it sounds sad, and of course it is, but there is redemption. And my first thought when I finished the poem was: I want to add this to my book. It so well expresses my feelings. It is not yet published, but when it is, if you are willing, I'd like to add it, credit given to you of course. Thanks for responding.

That's awfully nice, I know little of poetry "rules", but all the same that is obviously well-written. Brevity and clarity, and sublime, like a warm, gentle hug. Really nice.

Lovely poem. Tarragona, it's really nice here, no jobs (like everywhere these days) but the people are very human. Where were you?

The suburbs outside of NYC, near the water. Job situation is the same here, hard for my kids.

It's a shame, I'm 40+, I see people +/-20 (and of all ages) who must have a pretty negative outlook on things... But you have to be positive, life goes on, the world casino stops and starts the money every decade or so. What do your kids do?

My 2 oldest sons are in finance, third son is in insurance, and my daughter is graduating from college this year as a secondary English teacher.

That's nice, at least they will have steady jobs, very important in life. Where did you go in Spain when you were there?

Oh, that was sooo long ago - Barcelona was a favorite,Ibiza, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, I can hardly remember, I was the age of my children! But I do remember the feeling of warmth and kindness.

That's really nice, so many great cities. I was living in Barcelona until I came here a year ago, such a beautiful city...

What kind of work do you do, Daniel? And you speak English so very well!

I'm English/British, my father is Spanish, that's the name connection. Lately I don't work enough, I have a few English classes to keep me going. In life, and in equal amounts I've been a cook/chef, English teacher, solar energy and telecommunications technician, and a few other little irrelevant jobs. At present I'd like to get my web running well, but I want it as a not-for-profit place, so it wouldn't make money anyway. What do you do work-wise?
