Empty;

Empty;

A Poem by XO Vee

She once looked into your heart
Yes it was there
The love, everyone saw
But that pain hid
like a mouse from a cat
or a cat from a dog
She loved every minute of being in public
He looked at her with those eyes
That once convinced her to give him everything
He held her with that strength
The strength that promised to protect her from all evil
He kissed her with passion
The passion that she never envisioned to disappear
But it did, it all did
Now a calendar hangs from her wall with every event highlighted
Not because she loves these get togethers
She loves the thought that at them, she gets her baby back
The man she fell in love with in the beginning
The one that shows her off
And expresses that love for all to see
The one who dresses to match her
And people gaze in jealousy
But when the clock strikes the time to go
They make their way into the car
And silence fills the space
They enter their home
Thats hardly a home to her
She steps into the shower
Dries off
And not minutes later
He has changed back into that stranger
Attire changed and gone out the door
She's left in a home
Thats hardly a home
Empty
Empty the heart
Empty the soul
Empty the happiness
Just simply Empty

Empty of love and happiness gone like an old lover's song gone like the wind on a dust bowl field promises broken never to be filled lies were told broken hearts were its resolve you vow it will never happen again your lesson learned a life of struggles and strife. It is apparent that love sometimes bites.

Hello, this is emotionally charged and so intense. We do wear a facade of sorts in front of others it's a different story when we're alone. 'Empty' captures this piece perfectly the feeling is so deeply rooted. R xo

So sad. People where a mask when they are in social situations, but when they are behind closed doors, everything changes. The loneliness, regret, and emptiness are palpable. Lydi**

Thank you so much; I like to explore my way through my writing!
Killer intense! Nicely crafted to build up to a crescendo at the end. You're painting a glimpse of this situation that's kinda vague, so at first we aren't catching the intensity, but just following along the story being told. The details are plentiful & well-described, but not so specific that this is about a specific situation . . . it has enuf "open" structure so that any reader could pick out certain lines of familiarity. Even tho it seems the word "empty" applies to the void that this couple returns to, after the event . . . I'm seeing a lot of emptiness in the way the event is described, as well. Just a freakin' world of emptiness. I especially love the mouse to cat to dog progression -- very clever & a good metaphor.

THAT is how we learn about the person - behind their eyes...
