Chapter 1: My story

I was born Rosie. Rosie Larage. The year's 2009 and i'm 12. Life's not so easy for me. I was born May 15, 1996, at Merelene Children's Hospital, at 9:00am. Once you see me as me, you might think I’m not that interesting. But the truth is, i am. I'm quite shy, and i always have been. It's like having an annoying little brother. There's nothing you could do about it. I live on a small town farm, with my parents, Mary Larage, which is  my mom,  she is very nice, and enjoys cooking. She understands everything, especially, if you have a problem, you could talk with her about it. She’ll understand completely. And that’s because my mom’s a consuler at my school.  And,  Richard Larage, my dad, every one calls him Rich, but I just call him dad. My dad works with boats. He’s the one that taught me soooo many things about the ocean, and about boats. At this point, my Dad’s studying to become a marine biologist.  I go to school at Kenford Junior High, one of the biggest Junior high’s were i live. And in case your wondering were that is, it's  sunny Marksville, Louisiana. I have 3 best friends, they are really nice and trustworthy, and that’s why I’m their freind. They all have special qualities and powers. And yes, i said powers. I have powers too. Want to know how we got them? Ok, so my friends and I were having a slumber party. It was one of my friends’ birthdays. We were eating popcorn and watching a horror movie. Typical slumber party. The birthday girl decided she wanted to go to the beach. It was the afternoon, but we said yes anyways. I mean, when it’s someone’s birthday, you want to make them happy, right? My mom was talking with all my other 3 friends’ moms. I asked if we could go to the beach, politely, since parents always fall for that puppy dog face and sugary- sweet voice. My mom said yes. My mom is a sucker for a puppy dog face, and the truth was, I kind of wanted to go to the beach too, since I was a nature- sort of person.Next thing you know,  my mom  drove me and my 3 best friends to LongSand beach. One of the most sunniest beaches in Louisiana. I love LongSand beach. You could always be lucky enogh to find beautiful seashells, that is, if you look real careful. I would know this because I collect seashells. And, like I said, I am a nature- sort of person. I go to LongSand beach every summer vacation with my family. I guess it’s sort of a tradition now, since we’ve been doing it since I was born. As a matter of fact, right when the doctors from Merelene Children’s  Hospital said my mom and dad could take me home, the first thing my mom said was, “YIPPEE”, “Sweet heart, (me) we’re taking you to LongSand beach!!!”  I don’t know why they decided to take me there first. I guess maybe it was because they wanted me to grow up with it. And it worked. Anyways,   It was really a bumpy ride, since the construction people were repairing the road. One of my friends, Jenny, the birthday girl, kept on whining about how it was taking soo long to get there. We calmed her down by saying stuff like, “Don’t worry birthday girl! You won’t regret it! We’ll even get you some ice cream!” Jenny wiped the attitude (and by attitude I mean screaming every time you try to sooth her, and yelling at people for no reason) off her face when I tried to sooth her. It’s weird, how Jenny seems to not get so mad at me as she does with everyone else sometimes. I guess she feels close to me, I mean, I was the first person she met at Kenford Junior High.I guess that’s why she feels so close to me. Anyways, she wiped that attitude off her face when we told her we were going to buy her ice cream. Ice cream IS Jenny’s favorite dessert. By the time we got there, Jenny jumped off the seat and ran happily to the ice cream shoppe at the beach. She kept on saying “HAHAHAHA catch me if you can!” As always, Jenny ended up getting what she wanted. I mean, it WAS her birthday. Me, and my other two friends ran like idiots catching up to her. “Hold up!” my mom said when we went too far. We suddenly stopped, turning back to my mom. “Ok guys, I mean girls, lets go get some ice cream!" “YAY!” we all screamed. Unfortunately, our happiness wasn’t worth it. When we got to the ice cream shoppe, there was a big sign that said they were  closed. Great. Poor Jenny. She had been waiting all this 1 hour car ride just for ice cream. So, I suddenly had an idea. “Mom, how about you stay here, at this bench, while me and my friends go play over there at the shore?” My mom nodded. "Ok girls, but don’t you go too far into the water,” “ Wait!” she screamed forcing me and my friends to stop from running like hoolagans towards the shore.” What?” I asked impatiently. “It’s just, I think I should go with you girls. The shore is really far away from here and so can’t keep a sharp eye on you girls.” Mom said.   “Mom, I’m sure we’ll be fine.I’ll promise to try not to get us into trouble. It’s just the shore, you know, and we’re not babies, mom,” “We’re eleven year olds”. It sure took lots of ‘pretty pleases’ from my friends and I to get my mom to finally say yes. By the tikme my mom finally nodded, we were already halfway to the shore, continuing to run like hoolagans. “You be careful, now you girls!” I could hear my mom screaming as we finally reached the shore. By the time we got there, there was only a couple of people. And by a couple, I mean like none. It was just me, Jenny, Ashley and Kayla. Not to mention my mom, just a couple of yards away.It was pretty weird there was absolutely NO ONE on the entire beach. Actually, this thought gave me the chills.  “It’s sooo disappointing the ice cream shoppe was closed," said Jenny. “I wanted ice cream sooo bad!” She flipped her hair and sat slowly on the smooth, rocky sand. Ashley and Kayla, followed by me sat next to Jenny. “It’s ok, Jenny, “ Kayla said, “ You’ll be ok…. Hey! I have an idea! How about we play tag you guys?” Kayla asked, looking next to her, were I was sitting. “Sure…” I said, turning to Ashley. “ What do you think ,Ashley?” “Well, to be honest, I think tag is a baby game. I mean, we ARE 11 year olds….. you know”  she said. I leaned  over and whispered in her ear. “ Ashley, “ I said softly, “ If I ask Jenny if she wants to play you HAVE to say yes, since today’s her birthday,” I continued, “ What if YOU got disappointed on YOUR birthday? Wouldn’t that be sort of sucky?” I finally got her to agree. “Fine, Rosie, your right, it is her birthday, let’s go play!” “Ok,” I said, turning to Jenny. “Jenny, wanna play tag?... It’s really fun…” “Fine!” she said, “There really is nothing else to do!” I nodded and got my hair in a pony tail. Right when I was done, Jenny screamed sooo loud, I even jumped, “TAG YOUR IT!!” and then she poked Kayla on the shoulder. Jenny immediately jumped up as fast as she could, and went towards the water. “Jenny NO!!!” I screamed as she was already beginning to enter it. I was screaming because I remember my mom had said before to stay away from the water. Kayla was running towards her, screaming , “I’m gonna get you!” “ I’m gonna get you!” repeatedly. “ Kayla!” I said loudly as she ran passed me. “ Don’t let Jenny go in the water!”  “Ok!” she screamed back as she approached Jenny. “Jenny, don’t-----" she was already beginning to say but it was too late. Jenny was already in the water. About 5 seconds later : “ OWWWWW!!!!” She yelped real loudly. I new something bad was going to happen. Mom depended on ME to help us stay out of trouble and I had bailed on her. “ What?!!!”  Ashley screamed as she ran towards the water. “ What’s wrong?!” Kayla said loudly, giving me signals to get over there. I was running towards the water, and when I got there, I tried to give Jenny a hand along with Kayla and Ashley to help her get out of the water. “ OWWWW! I think I stepped on something! My foot’s really sore…. OWWW!!!” Jenny stepped slowly out of the water, limping on her right foot. “ Jenny, here, let me help you,” Ashley said nicely, helping Jenny sit down. Kayla and I sat next to her. “ Jenny, tell us exactly WHAT you stepped on!” I demanded  “How should I know?” Jenny  qickly said in her sassy voice. “ What I stepped on was under water, and I couldn’t see it!” I got up quickly from the sand and said, “ You guys stay here and comfort Jenny, while I go find what she stepped on.” “Ok” Ashley and Kayla responded. Jenny just nodded. As I walked towards were Jenny was standing, I had a feeling of guilt. I didn’t keep us out of trouble, and just for some lousy game of tag one of us got  hurt. I tried to remember were Jenny was standing and  squatted…. The water luckily wasn’t so deep after all and I could reach the object with no problem. As my hands grabbed the object from the ocean floor, I happily jumped up, with a palm sized, really shiny blue rock in my hand. Right when I grabbed it, right at that second, I felt a strong enery in my hand.  I walked towards a confused and worried Kayla, Ashley, and Jenny. “ What’s that?” they all said at the same time. “ It’s a shiny blue lace agate, a big one indeed” I declared. I was at this point extremely happy my dad had taught me everything about the ocean and stuff in it. “ What the heck is that?” Jenny said in a curious voice. “ Yeah, what she said,” Ashley and Kayla said. “ It’s a type of stone, and this one is really rare because it was found underwater " “ ohhh so I stepped on a stupid rock” Jenny said, her voice full of rage. “ And that’s why my foot is so sore? ‘Cause of a stupid piece of rock?” I admired undersea objects so I snapped at her. “ This is NOT a stupid piece of rock Jenny. It’s actually a stone, and it’s very rare, and I wouldn’t say that because it WAS NOT the stone’s fault you stepped on it. It’s your own fault.”  Jenny only nodded, and she even said she was sorry, for saying the stone was stupid. I guess she just appreciated my underwater knowledge. FINALLY someone does. “ Let us see it, Rosie,” Ashley and Kayla said. “ Yeah, me too, " Jenny added as I handed the rock to Ashley. “ Oh my gosh! It’s soo smooth! I feel an energy in my hand….” Suddenly a small crab came towards us. The crab grabbed my anklew, and it hurt A LOT. “ ouuuchhhh! I screamed as it continued. My eyes began to water from the pain. “ LEAVE HER ALONE!!!!” Ashley snapped at the crab, looking it straight in the eye. “ Please leave her alone” The crab let go of my ankle and went away. “ Ashley, how’d you do that? How’d you make the crab go away? According to what I know about crabs, it’s like, impossible to get them to let go of something once it’s in there hands.” I said. “ I don’t know…. It just kind of happened.. it was weird!” Ashley said with a shrug.“ “ Here, let me see it,” Kayla asked as she took it from Ashley’s hands. “ It IS smooth, and shiny… and…. unique.” Kayla said in an admirable voice.  Jenny was strangely staring at the sky, and when we asked her why, she wouldn’t tell us. “ hmmm… let me see,” Kayla said in a soft voice, “Are you thinking about how this isn’t the best birthday party you’ve ever had?” Kayla asked with a smile on her face. “ How’d you know that? Only I could figure out MY OWN thoughts…. “ Jenny said, turning her face away from the sky and staring at Kayla for a second. “ I don’t know… I mean, I did guess…. Is that REALLY what you WERE thinking?” Kayla said, staring at the sand. “ Actually, it was what I was thinking…” Jenny said mysteriously. “ I wish I could see it upclose though…” Kayla said, using her hand motions to show she was referring to the rock.  Suddenly the strangest and most coolest thing happened. Kayla turned tiny. Well, she said, “I wish I was tiny…” and suddenly she was. She looked EXACTLY like the LIFE sized Kayla, except she was the size of a Barbie doll, and she was, ineed, looking at the rock upclose. “ OH MY GOSH GUYS!!!!” Kayla said excidently. “ OH MY GOD KAYLA!!!” “ YOUR TINY!!!!” OH MY GOD HOW DID THAT HAPPEN?!!??” None of us could believe our eyes. For a second I actually declared it was a dream… even Jenny said, “ Pinch me, I’m dreaming…” I thought she was serious until I pinched her, and then she let out a yelp, similar to the one she let out when she stepped on that glorious stone. “ OUCH!” she screamed. “I wasn’t serious…..” “ Oh wow Jenny,” I said. Suddenly another unbelieveable thing happened right when Kayla said, “ Oh my gosh!” “ now I wish I was giant…” She turned sooo tall she made a huge shade were the sun was shining in our faces. She was a giant. “ OH MY GOSH GUYS!!!!!” “HOW  DID THIS HAPPEN?!” Suddenly she said she wishes she was normal sized again and she got what she wished for. “ You mean how did all of this happen, you know, Ashley being able to talk to animals, you being able to turn like a giant or tiny… and you being able to read minds…” Everyone nodded and said, “ Yeah, how DID this happen? “ Well, I’ve been watching what’s going on and ever since I gave the rock to Ashley you guys have been getting powers…” “WAIT! LET ME SEE THAT!!!” Jenny screamed. I handed the rock to her. “ Here,” I said, rolling my eyes. “ Rosie,” she continued, “ If what you say is really true, Then how come I’m touching this and nothing’s happening? How come I’m not getting any powers?” I shrugged and thought about it for a moment. “Maybe it’s because------" Suddenly the biggest wave I’ve ever seen went over us… I realized if we didn’t run or get out of the way.. we could drown. “ GUYS!! MOVE OUT OFF THE WAY!!” We all shrieked in frighted voices. “ SOMEONE HEL-----" Ashley hollered, and right when she did just that, Jenny closed her eyes. “ Jenny, what are you closing your eyes about?” We all asked, our voices still sounding frightend. Jenny slowly began lifting her right hand, and the wave got smaller… and smaller.. by the second. In about 5 seconds, the wave was no longer a wave, but a calm, average- looking ocean .  “ JENNY!!!! THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!” I screamed. “ YOU SAVED OUR LIVES!!!” yelped Ashley.  “ YOU ROCK!!!” Kayla hollered. We all gave Jenny a hug and suddenly, she didn’t seem so sassy and whiny anymore. She just seemed like a best friend… like a lifesaver. We all hugged Jenny sooo tightly she begged to get some air. We all sat down on the rocky shore. Suddenly, I realized I still hadn’t gotten any powers. “ Guys,” I began, seeing their faces being turned towards me. “ Why haven’t I gotten any powers yet? I mean, I WAS the person that found the rock right?” Everyone else just shrugged and soothed me by saying my powers will come sooner or later, even Jenny soothed me. Suddenly, I forgot about the blue lace agate stone.I was too busy hugging the person I thought was the biggest whiner in the history of whiners but turned out to be my best frind.  That is, until Ashley reminded me. “ Rosie, why don’t you use the stone… in other words… why don’t you hold it so you could get your powers?”  The rock was standing there… on the smooth ocean floor… peacefully. I grabbed the rock which was next to Jenny’s leg and said, “ Ok. I am holding it… now what?” They shrugged again. I hated when she did ‘shrugg language’ on me. Unfortunately, I didn’t speak that language. I felt that enery again. But this time it was bigger…. And stronger…  and it was so strong I fainted.
