Tributes: Lies at Funeral

Tributes: Lies at Funeral

A Poem by Dandy Mbuong
"

At funeral, we most times tell lies as tributes and condolences

"

When I die,
Don't go out there
telling the world about my failures,
Don't tell them I cheated on my wife
and had illegitimate children.
Make no mention of my drug dealings
Nor my affairs with my own daughter.

Don't tell the world I abused you
And took your possession
Don't remind them that my body laying there
Did not serve humanity right
Please, don't shame my body.

But when I die,
Embellish your tributes
Bear false witness, make only eulogies,
bend the truth and call it tributes,
make lies, call it condolences,
Tell my family how well you will miss me
Hide your true feelings.
Adorn my funeral with encomiums
It is called '"Respect for the Dead".

Oh i loved it! This is so true yet unique as a concept for a poem. Still i don't know what to say bcoz does bending truths and calling them tributes at funerals of such people feel right?
