The Abyss ...

I.

A shadow in the darkness

Which engulfs me so

That we have become

A single entity.

 

Failure.

An end synonymous with the eventuality

Of my endeavours.

Futile attempts at

Sculpting a better life.

 

Resignation.

Entrapment in the vicious cycle of Destiny

Where freedom means no more than

My retreat into

Distress and paranoia.

 

Luck.

A damsel who has quite forgotten

That I, being a mere mortal,

Also fall within the jurisdiction

Of Her magic wand.

 

Hope.

A thing of the past.

There will be no more laughter now.

What ensues is a lone walk, lame and uneventful,

Through the monotonies of a simple life.

The starting verbs seem to compliment the tale of the poem, and the tone is rather dark and resigned, like the poet is leaving everything to fate to do as it pleases. Very intriguing and moving too.

I like the stanza's each dealing with the first word... it is a sad read but very well written and the title is perfect.
